We can absolutely make that happen!” “Just let me know how I can help.” “I certainly don’t see a problem if you want to try that.” “Let’s talk about how we can set that up for you.” “We are always here if you need anything.” The Blowing Conference Center would like to partner with you by sponsoring your camp as one of our annual ‘Special Programs’.”
Statements like these created the structure of my personal experience with the Blowing Rock Conference Center. “We support you!” has been…and remains…the message, delivered with intention in action, of every member of the BRCC team over my two decades as a group leader. And I know from visiting alone when I needed time for introspection, being on site for events with family and friends, attending events hosted by BRCC, and during my tenure as a Trustee, that my experience is in no way preferential.
The sincere kindness and dedication to service demonstrated by the Directors and staff of the Blowing Rock Conference Center literally changed my attitude toward developing relationships. Following their example has made me a more effective group leader. Shifting my reactions toward challenging ideas away from hesitancy or doubt to a more positive reaction of support and encouragement, creates a welcoming space for collegial creativity. Finding ways to say “yes” adds value to our program and joy to the work.
As sure as my stress melts away when I turn up the drive onto the pristine grounds of the peaceful mountain oasis that is the Blowing Rock Conference Center, stress associated with difficult challenges is also released, simply by adopting the attitude of positivity demonstrated by her caretakers. The people tasked with the responsibility to assure that the BRCC remains a viable and inclusive center of community development, education, and spiritual growth, achieve this mission by nurturing each individual relationship…one by one, day by day.
There is no other place our camp would call “home” during 4th of July week each summer. I am absolutely certain that the success of my program…in addition to the effort, heart, and joy that my partner and each faculty and staff member contributes to The Walker Family Band Music Camp…is largely a result of the kindness, support, love, and dedication, of the people who manage and maintain the Blowing Rock Conference Center. They demonstrate to group leaders and participants, in their work and through their faith, that by God’s grace, all things are possible.
For me, the value of the Blowing Rock Conference Center…this welcoming place of acceptance, love, and sacred spiritual energy…is priceless. And knowing I will fall short of matching the gifts I have received, I feel an urgency to give as much as I can…financially, in service, and by sharing my experience with others…so that this mission can continue to positively impact the lives of future generations in the very personal way it has inspired me.
