On Holy Ground is one of the ways in which Blowing Rock Conference Center describes itself. We don’t say this because we are associated with the United Church of Christ through the Southern Conference. Nor do we use it to exalt ourselves. BRCC describes itself as such because so many of our visitors write us after their visit to say they feel as if they spent time on holy ground. We are honored to receive such comments and assurances that their time with us was well spent.
Sitting atop one of the highest points outside the commercial center of Blowing Rock, there seems to be an energy embracing visitors just being atop the hill. I am not aware of anyone claiming that there is an energy vortex at BRCC. But so many visitors return home after just a couple of days of retreating or conferencing feeling renewed, refreshed, clearer of mind, as if their soul has been rejuvenated. Clearly, people feel as if they have been on Holy Grounds.
Our guests feel more connected to themselves, and others that they were with, as well as to something greater, whether that be God or the Universe itself – whatever you want to call it. Understand this, BRCC is not a spiritual retreat center per se. We have no spas, no regular yoga classes, no resident swami. What we do provide is simplicity, an opportunity to be quiet, go off-line, take a hike, hug a tree, marvel at fireflies, sit and scan the horizon, or star gaze.
Some people may not have an epiphany or spiritual renewal on their first visit. Yet they frequently come back because it is apparent that there is something special at BRCC. My history with BRCC goes back generations. In our family, there is great reverence for BRCC, what it has accomplished for us personally and for the tens of thousands of others who encamped there. I hope you and your family, friends, acquaintances will feel drawn to the Holy Grounds of Blowing Rock Conference Center again and again. Our door is always open for you.
